冷水江地处湖南的几何中心，东距上海1600公里，南距广州700公里，距省会长沙210公里。湘黔铁路横亘东西，东靠南北大动脉洛湛铁路，上瑞高速公路擦境而过，省道S312线穿境而行，资水船只上通邵阳，下达洞庭，水陆交通十分便利。境内公路总里程753.12公里，公路网密度1.72公里/平方公里，已达到发达地区标准，实现了村村通公路的目标。

　　Lengshuijiang City is situated in the center of Hunan Province, 1,600 kilometers to the west of Shanghai, 700 kilometers to the north of Guangzhou and 210 kilometers away from the capital city of Hunan Province. Xiang-qian Railway is running across the city from east to west, Luo-zhan Raiway is on the east of the city, Shangrui Expressway is running along the border line, the provincial highway S312 is running through the city, and vessels can reach Shaoyang upstream and Dongting Downstream along Zishui River.
